    Day 1: SRINAGAR AIRPORT- SONAMARG (2740 M / 8900 ft) 84 km / 2 ½ hrs drive

    Reach Srinagar Airport by mid-morning / noon. Do a short but picturesque drive to reach Sonamarg by late afternoon. Check into your hotel rooms. After freshening up go for a stroll on the meadows

    SONAMARG – KARGIL (2850 M / 9400 ft) 120 km / 5 hrs

    Day 2: SONAMARG – KARGIL (2850 M / 9400 ft) 120 km / 5 hrs

    An early morning walk on the meadows should just hit the spot. Leave after breakfast on a drive from verdant landscapes into starkly contrasting mountain desert terrain as you cross the formidable Zoji La (3529 M). Drive via Drass – one of the coldest places on the planet, and check out the war memorial. Reach Kargil in time for a latish but hot lunch at your hotel.

    KARGIL – RANGDUM (3657 M / 11998 ft) 130 km / 5 hrs

    Day 3: KARGIL – RANGDUM (3657 M / 11998 ft) 130 km / 5 hrs

    Check out after an early breakfast and embark on your drive towards the Zanskar region. You will drive via the incredibly picturesque Suru Valley and pass the settlements of Sankoo & Panikhar before reaching Rangdum. Check into safari tents at a campsite. Try and leave Kargil by 0800 hrs so that you can be at the campsite for hot lunch. Post lunch you could consider doing a hike up to the gompa; go further up to the hilltop above the hamlet of Juldo and you would be rewarded with great views of the Nun & Kun Massifs.

    Day 4: RANGDUM – PADUM (3669 M / 12037 ft) 105 km / 3 ½ hrs

    Check out after breakfast and continue your drive towards the Zanskar region. You will reach Penzi La, the gateway to Zanskar. Around the pass, on one side you will see the grand Drung Drung Glacier and on the other side you should be able to get a look at the Sta Tso & Lang Tso Lakes. Carry on and reach Padum around noon. Check into rooms at your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure, to enjoy the pristine & untouched natural beauty all around you.

    PADUM – visit Karsha, Stongdey & Zangla

    Day 5: PADUM – visit Karsha, Stongdey & Zangla

    Post breakfast leave on a driving excursion to see the gompas at Karsha & Stongdey as well as the ancient fort at Zangla. Be back in Padum by late afternoon / early evening.

    PADUM – excursion to Phugtal Gompa

    Day 6: PADUM – excursion to Phugtal Gompa

    After an early breakfast we will first drive about 3 hrs through some stunning Zanskari terrain to reach Purne. From here a trek of about 1 – 1 ½ hrs will get us to the impossibly located and simply stunning Phugtal Gompa. Explore the incredible structures of the monastery, its cave kitchen and have lunch at the gompa. Hike back down to Purne and be back in Padum by late evening.

    PADUM – KARGIL 235 km / 8 – 9 hrs

    Day 7: PADUM – KARGIL 235 km / 8 – 9 hrs

    Check out after breakfast and backtrack via Rangdum to reach Kargil by evening.

    KARGIL - SRINAGAR (1600 M) 204 km / 6 – 7 hrs

    Leave after an early breakfast and backtrack via Sonamarg to reach Srinagar in the afternoon. Check into a luxury houseboat on the peaceful & serene Nageen Lake. Enjoy the sunset doing a Shikara Ride on the lake.

    SRINAGAR – FLYOUT

    Day 9: SRINAGAR – FLYOUT

    Post breakfast transfer to the airport in time to board your return flight. Please note: you could also drive from Kargil to Leh (220 km / 6 – 7 hrs) on Day 08, stay the night in Leh and fly out the next morning, or even add a few days exploring the rest of Ladakh.
