The Binsar Forest Retreat is located deep inside the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary in Kumaon – Uttarakhand. The Retreat is at an altitude of 7,600 ft amidst dense oak forests and offers spectacular views: Himalayan peaks like Trishul to the north and of endless valleys bounded by Kumaoni hills to the south and west. Surrounded by sights and sounds of the wilderness it is an oasis of peace & tranquility that is completely in harmony with nature, both externally and internally. It is off-the-grid and dependent entirely on solar power for energy needs; you will enjoy sumptuous vegetarian fare prepared from fresh organic ingredients sourced from nearby villages; you will wake up to the chirping of birds, hike in the beautiful forests by day and have endless conversations about all things wise and wonderful over dinner. In keeping with the focus on holistic well being there a glass enclosed Yoga Room with lovely views.

Accomodation

2 Trishul Rooms, 2 Nandaghunti Rooms, 2 Rhododendron Rooms, 1 Chestnut Room, 1 Walnut Cottage and 2 Swiss Cottage Tents

All the accommodation options have an attached bath with running hot & cold water. Except the tents all the other units have traditional heating using a Bukhari wood stove.

How to Reach

By ROAD: via Moradabad - Rampur – Kaladhungi - Nainital/Bhimtal – Bhowali – Almora - Kasaar Devi – Kaffarkhan – Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary. It is about a 9 - 10 hr drive from Delhi NCR.

By TRAIN: reach Kathgodam – KGM (connected with Delhi & Dehradun by daily trains) and drive about 4 hrs from here to reach Binsar.

By AIR: reach Pantnagar Airport – PGH (connected with Delhi by flights on Wed, Fri, Sat, and Sun) and drive about 5 hrs to Binsar.

Things to see & do

Forest Hikes

Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary has over 60 km of walking trails. Given the dense forest cover and spectacular views from these trails, walking is the best way to experience the natural splendours of the Sanctuary. These are some of the choicest hikes that you can do: Ghoralkot Hike – Simple / 3 km / 1.5 hrs; Forest Rest House Walk – Medium / 6 km / 3 hrs; Mayolikhan Hike – Hard / 9 kms / 4 ½ hrs and Zero Point Hike – Simple / 2 km / 1 hr return stroll to a vantage point with exhilarating panoramic views of Himalayan peaks like Trishul, Shivling, Nanda Devi, Kedarnath…

Of course, shorter exploratory strolls on any of the trails heading out from the retreat are also immensely pleasurable, especially early morning and around sundown.

Dalar & Risal Village Experience

Hike to quaint Kumaoni hamlets like Dalar / Risal and enjoy an authentic traditional meal in a village home also interact with the locals and get peek into their lifestyle and culture.

Jageshwar Dham

Do a driving excursion of about an hour and a half each way to Jageshwar Valley and see the majestic cluster of over 100 ancient Hindu temples dated between 7th and 12th century near Almora, in the Himalayan Indian state of Uttarakhand.
